Mephisto would pass on these traits of cunning, manipulation, and intrigue to his children, the first among them being Lilith. Due to constant infighting, none of the other Great Evils could ever truly challenge his control of the Burning Hells. Mephisto was a master of manipulation and used his cunning to pit his lessers against one another. Mephisto, Lord of Hatred, was the very first demon to awaken from the corpse of Tathamet and his dominion of the Burning Hells has lasted ever since. The Eternal Conflict would be waged ceaselessly with neither side ever truly winning a decisive victory over the other and it’s from this endless stalemate that descent would be born on both sides.īefore Lilith would be known as the Mother of Sanctuary, she was the Daughter of Hatred. The worlds created by the Angels were too rigid to form life and those created by Demons were too chaotic and would rip themselves apart. The Worldstone would change hands endlessly in the ebb and flow of the Conflict, but it is written that neither side could truly master the Stone’s power. Both Heaven and Hell craved this artifact and so began the Eternal Conflict, an unending war that would engulf all of Creation. The Worldstone had unimaginable power, creating or destroying worlds with but a whim. It was in Pandemonium that one last relic of Anu would settle, an all-powerful artifact called the Worldstone. The place the two titans had slain each other would be a permanent scar on Creation that would be known as Pandemonium. Tathamet’s decaying corpse would become the foundation of the Burning Hells and from each of her seven heads would form the Great Evils, first and chief among them being Mephisto. These two divine beings instantly began to fight each other for what could be described as eons until they slew one another in a karmic strike that destroyed the Pearl and threw their essences across the cosmos into the newly created universe that would be known as Creation.Īnu’s essence would coalesce into the High Heavens where his spine would become the Crystal Arch and give birth to the Angels, such as Malthael and Tyrael. They coalesced into the Prime Evil, the seven-headed dragon Tathamet.
So he cast off this darkness from himself, but these metaphysical concepts didn’t just fade away.
